Though I thoroughly enjoy dawning frilly frocks and gowns, at times I get my fashion inspiration from menswear. Its easy to look natural, effortless, yet put-together with clothes that have a slight androgynous vibe. The key to pulling the look off is often pure tailoring and proportion, paired with feminine accessories. Think pinstripes, blazers, oxfords, collared button down shirts and tailored trousers- styled with a chic, feminine twist.
Here I’ve kept my look fairly simple. The key piece to this ensemble is the oversized silky plaid pattered long sleeve button down shirt I purchased from Forever 21 a few months ago. Its easy to feel comfortable and freely move around in this billowy top which is another advantage from menswear inspired fashion.
Though I was not able to locate this exact shirt, below you may find a few similar plaid shirts to achieve a similar look:
The other clothing pieces are fairly simple and basic to not take away from the shirt. I have on a pair of solid black opaque leggings bye a brand called Hue which I also wore in a previous post. These have been washed numerous times and have not faded or pilled. Under my shirt, I’m wearing a black formfitting camisole.
I would like to point out the booties I chose to wear called the “Hesh Boot” by BCBGMAXAZRIA. Despite having a four inch heel, these shoes are quite comfortable to wear as they have a lightly cushioned footbed. Here’s a closeup so you can check out the details – high heels, rubberized sole, and 100% leather exterior with an open toe design.
A statement necklace which I purchased from Target last holiday season and red lipstick give just the right amount of feminine touch to this menswear inspired outfit. Though my exact necklace isn’t available anymore, I’ve included a fun colorful statement necklace example which isnt too over the top.
