Desi Food from Tikka Wraps & Curry Bowls

Tikka Wraps & Curry Bowls is the best semi-fast food restaurant in town if you are craving desi food! And by town, I mean the city of Claremont, which is just a few blocks away from my workplace.

It’s a convenient and reasonably priced option if you’re craving Indian food. The food is a bit “Americanized”,  so don’t expect super authentic flavors. With that said, everything I’ve tried tastes really good as I regularly continue to order from them.
They cook you a fresh meal once you place your order, and it’s ready super quickly. Also, they totally adjust the spice levels to your liking which means I can get a fix my spicy food cravings. Their sauces are sooo good- especially the mango chutney and the mint raita.

I think they use the same masala/spice sauce for a few different desi dishes because they taste exactly the same. For example, the Chicken Tikka Masala Curry Bowl and the Chicken Biryani have the exact same flavors, except the curry bowl just has more sauce. So its redundant to order both of these dishes. If you ask for spicy food, they are able to accommodate to your request and add a little extra spice which I appreciate. Their naan isn’t amazing, but pretty good. They serve their gulab jamun cold versus warm like most places – but 30 seconds in the microwave quickly fixes that.

What To Order:

Desi food can be daunting if you aren’t too familiar with it. A couple of my favorite dishes are Chicken Karahi Bowl, and the Chicken Tikkah wrap. Their gulab jamun’s are also yummy, but they tend to run out of them often. If you don’t know where to start and you get overwhelmed by the menu, go with “Chicken Biryani” – It’s always a safe option and its always good here. They have three different sauces which all taste great – be sure to try them all to find your favorite!

Every one is always nice which is also a plus, and they sell Pakola!!! 🙂

Pakistani Wedding – makeup and hairstyle for a desi celebration

Most Pakistani weddings consist of several celebrations. My sister recently got married and I got to play dress up in traditional Pakistani attire. Here’s a picture of me while I was waiting for the rest of the wedding party.

Hair – This hair style is honestly very easy to create. I teased the top using a teasing brush, and added the Big Sexy Hair Powder Play Volumizing and Texturizing Powder to add dramatic volume without having to tease too much. This is one of my favorite products to use when I’m looking to create a look with “big hair”. It’s weightless, odorless, and colorless – meaning you wont see embarrassing white powder on your head! Once I was satisfied with the amount of volume, I pinned the top half of the hair back using bobby pins. I curled the ends using a 1 inch Conair curling iron. Then I set the hairstyle using some volumizing hairspray. This is a fool proof hairstyle and any one can easily create it.

Makeup – Since my outfit had more than sufficient sparkle in it, I decided to keep my makeup fairly simple. I tried to create an even complexion using a full coverage foundation. Then I used a pink blush to add some color to my cheeks. I chose a matte pink lipstick to wear as matte finished tend to last for several hours. I knew I would be eating and talking all night without any time for reapplication. I did try to play up the eyes a little by using jet black eyeliner, several coats of mascara, and false eyelashes. I think falsies are a quick foolproof way of  adding a flirty touch. I sealed the makeup by spraying an oil free makeup setting spray.

Here is a list of some of the products I used to create this look:

MAC Studio Fix liquid foundation

Ardell Multipack Demi Wispies Fake Eyelashes

Stila customer color blush in pink

Wet n Wild Mega Last Lip Color 907C Mauve Outta Here

Wet n Wild Mega Last Lip Color 967 Dollhouse Pink

Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray

Lastly, I feel the entire look comes together with the traditional desi style of jewelry as it perfectly complements the outfit. The maang tika or head piece is my favorite. The jewels I’m wearing were purchased from Pakistan, but many similar styles can be purchased from sites like Amazon.com. Here is on example of a gorgeous and affordable traditional set in silver finish.
